Every January the Schwaben Club comes together to crown their new Miss
Schwaben. It is a
time
to honour the young lady who will represent our Club for the next
year, and to say goodbye to the Miss who’s term is coming to an end.
Add to that a Masquerade theme, and you have the recipe for one heck
of an evening. Like most events, it all started with the meal. After
our outgoing Miss Mishi Savulescu said Grace, it was time to indulge.
With the members and parents of all the dance groups volunteering to
serve the meal, you know it’s all going to go smoothly and quickly!
So once Grace was finished, Caeser salads and buns came out. It’s
the usual appetizer, but it really helps build the appetite.
The entree arrived next - roast beef, oven-roasted potatoes, and mixed
vegetables. It was all delicious, and befitting the evening. Finally,
out came dessert - Mango torte. It was the first time it had been
served at the Club, and I doubt it will be the last time.
Now it was time for the performances. First up, a combined performance
of the Kinder- and Jugend Gruppen. Wearing masks and carrying fans,
the dancers covered the floor with their fun choreography. It was a
perfect addition to the evening’s theme. A quick waltz with all the
most recent Misses, and the band took over to help burn off dinner.
Lucky for us, the band was the Golden Keys, so dancing was very easy.
During the first band break, the Schwaben Dancers came out and
performed their Masquerade dance. Dressed in elegant gowns, suits and
masks, they added a touch of elegance to the evening. Then it was back
to the band again. On the following band break, the Donau Dancers took
to the floor. Performing a traditional Quadrille and also dressed
elegantly and sporting masks, they added to the theme of the evening
with their performance.
Finally, it was time for the coronation. But before we could crown our
new Miss, we had to say goodbye to the previous one. Thus Mishi made
her goodbye speech and enjoyed a final waltz with her President, Phil
Neidert. Then past Misses were called up to the front to assist in the
crowning. Since a new picture was about to be hung up on the wall, an
older one needed to come down. So Magdalena Adam was presented with
her Miss picture. Finally, the new Miss was invited to the front of
the hall.
Jennifer Tschirhart, dressed for her new office, came up to be
recognized. A poignant speech of Thanks, followed by an
acknowledgement from out current President, George Kraehling, ended
the speeches. This was followed by the ceremonial first dance of the
new Miss and our new President.
The evening ended with the raffle (no, it was not rigged!), and the
Golden Keys helping us dance the night away. Overall, the themed
evening added to the formality and excitement of the evening. We
can’t wait to see what next year’s theme will be.
